First Photo’s – Astro Photography

I find it impossible to photograph wildlife in Yellowstone any more. TOO MANY PEOPLE. I didn’t get into wildlife photography to put up with hour-long traffic jams. It was tolerable 10 years ago, but not now.

So for the last 10 years I have spent a lot of time photographing “my” herd of wild horses in Utah’s West Desert. I have also photographed several other herds of wild horses here in the West.

Lately, I have been tinkering with the idea to start with astrophotography as I have good lenses and equipment. I purchased an “inexpensive” tracking mount and this is the very first photograph using that tracker. It is the Andromeda galaxy that is the closest galaxy to us, only 2.5 million light years away. This is 22 five minute exposures using my Nikon D850 camera, 500mm lens at f5.6, ISO 500. EQM35i tracking mount, guided. (star spikes added)

Not enough cloudless nights but I got a few photos of the Orion Nebula also..
