Winter Wildlife Photography: Grebe’s and Avocets at the Refuge
It been a long time since I have posted my latest outings, but there is little else to do today due to the snow showers outside. We have been to the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge several times this year, and in particular the last few weeks trying to photograph the Grebe’s in their mating dance. We captured a few, but nothing too spectacular. We wanted to try one last time before they change the self-guided auto tour on April 4 to a new route that may or may not have access to Grebe’s.
Didn’t see any dances this trip, but I did get a few good photographs that I am sharing here. The American Avocet’s are feeding on red midge larvea that is shown in the enlarged photographs of them. I will post an update on the new auto route as soon as we try it.
I added a few images of the Wester Grebe’s mating dance that we took on March 23.
